I AM A GIRL!

The PANASONIC Award for Best Documentary Short

Susan Koenen | Netherlands | 2010 | 15 minutes

THE TANNERY

AGLAÉE

The DELUXE Award For Best Live-Action Short

Rudi Rosenberg | France | 2010 | 19 minutes

Aglaée isn't interested when Benoît asks her out, but upon discovering it was a cruel joke, the tables begin to turn. A fascinating commentary on youth culture and power dynamics, but also an affirming story of a self-possessed, differently-abled girl who refuses to be defined by her physical limitations.

THE DEATH OF AN INSECT
(Erään Hyönteisen Tuho)

Best Experimental Short

Hannes Vartiainen, Pekka Veikkolainen | Finland | 2010 | 7 minutes

A newly hatched butterfly dazzles in an animated ballet of soaring heights and dizzying swarms. This short cycle of life is constructed from real insects found in attics and tool sheds.

NOWHERE ELSEWHERE
(Au Milieu De Nulle Part Ailleurs)

The KODAK Award for Best Cinematography in a Canadian Short

Annick Blanc | Canada | 2010 | 15 minutes

Anxious about visiting her sick mother, Jade stalls the family road trip by checking into a motel, but decrepit corridors and bleak rooms do little to settle her. Arresting performances, stunning cinematography and a haunting soundtrack create a lyrical portrait or interiority.
